Country Singer Sam Hunt Avoids Charges After Arrest Linked to Past DUI
Country music star Sam Hunt has once again avoided serious legal consequences after being arrested for violating an interlock device requirement. The “Leave the Night On” singer was pulled over in Tennessee last week, bringing back memories of his 2019 DUI case.
Sam Hunt Fined for Speeding and Interlock Violation
Reports indicate that Hunt was arrested in Henderson County, Tennessee, on January 20 for driving above the speed limit and violating an interlock device requirement. However, he was quickly released on a $1,500 bond, and his legal team resolved the issue in court days later.
A representative for Hunt’s attorney confirmed that the matter was cleared up without formal charges. Instead, Hunt will only be required to pay a fine for speeding.
The Arrest Stems from a 2019 DUI Case
Hunt’s interlock device violation appears to be connected to his 2019 DUI arrest. The device, which functions as a car breathalyzer, prevents a vehicle from starting unless the driver’s breath alcohol level is within legal limits.
His DUI case went viral at the time due to his smug-looking mugshot. Officers had pulled him over in Nashville after he was seen swerving and driving in the wrong direction. Police reported that Hunt had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and had two empty beer cans in the car.
When asked for his driver’s license, Hunt mistakenly handed officers a credit card and a passport. He later admitted to drinking, failed a sobriety test, and was found to have a blood alcohol level of .173, more than twice the legal limit. He was booked for DUI charges and released the same day after posting a $2,500 bond.
